This is my seventh year teaching at Grover C. Fields Middle School. I am teaching my absolute favorite subject. I love North Carolina and United States history. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in Political Science. I decided that I wanted to teach middle school and went to East Carolina in order to get my certification in middle school Social Studies.
I am married and have three children. My oldest daughter also works with children as a preschool teacher. My middle child is an eighth grade teacher. She is Mrs. Carlson that teaches Language Arts on our team. My son is is a youth minister at First Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson.
We have several animals at our house. We are currently keeping my son's dog, Job until he has a place with a yard. We also feed 3 cats that were abandoned at our house. However our babies are Maximilian, our cat. He is 9 years old and spends most of his time stretched out on our guest room bed. The latest addition to our family is Napoleon, our dog. He is turning 3 on August 21, 2016. Napoleon is quite a handful. He is a Lab/Boxer/Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.
When I have spare time, I love to sew, knit, crochet, paint, cross-stitch and read. I love to read murder mysteries. I spend most of my free time making teddy bears that are donated to a ministry that was started by my son. I also like to make prayer shawls. I have recently started making little girls' dresses for Little Dresses for Africa. I have also been working on my genealogy and have made so many interesting discoveries.. As you can see, I love to do many different things so I am always busy. I don't like to just sit and do nothing. I have to be busy.
I love teaching eighth grade. This is the absolute best grade to teach. It is so much fun watching students growing into young adults ready for the high school experience.
